Bio
I am an exercise specialist, educator, personal trainer, certified Qigong instructor, and author. Originally a classically trained professional modern dancer, I studied at Purchase College. After graduating in 1979 I joined the continuing education faculty there, teaching jazz dance for the next 11 years while also choreographing and performing in New York City.
After receiving my masters degree in dance education from Columbia University in 1989, I refocused my work, studying dance therapy at the Laban Institute in London, and creating and running dance/movement therapy programs at two psychiatric hospitals in Sacramento, CA. After returning home to NYC in 1991, I developed mycurrent practice, which specializes in people over 50 years old, but is appropriate for anyone.
During the past 15 years I have focused on incorporating Tai Chi and Qigong into my teaching repertoire. I hold a level four certification from the Santa Cruz Chi Center under Lee Holden, and continue my studies whenever possible with Ming Tong Gu, Robert Peng, Roger Jahnke, and Chungliang Al Huang.
Working with people with PD is my latest passion. In 2015 I trained with the Mark Morris Dance Group in their Dance for PD program. I am currently developing a Qigong for Parkinson's program in the Rhinebeck NY area, to help show people with PD that they have lots more options for moving and feeling great than, perhaps, they realize.
Based on more than 40 years of experience and study, I am dedicated to revealing to my students that it is never too late to learn how to move and feel better.... once you understand how to do it.
