BREATH
I’ve finally gotten around to reading James Nestor’s book Breath, published in 2020. It’s fascinating. I highly recommend it.
Qigong has been around for thousands of years but the research into how and why it works so well is fairly recent. Like many of you, I love learning the science behind Qigong. Nestor is a good writer and clearly explains studies that show how and why breathing correctly (i.e., more slowly and ALWAYS through the nose) has a tremendously positive and direct effect on our blood pressure, immunities, spinal alignment, cognition, digestion, sleep, disposition, even our weight. (Yes, our weight!) The book isn’t limited to Qigong; Nestor also cites studies on professional athletes, musicians, Yogis, and others who depend on healthy respiration to enhance their skills. It’s a page-turner that I think you’ll enjoy and find inspiring…pun intended.
