Strengthen Your Upper Body Qigong Style

First Workshop just completed, Additional workshops on this subject will follow in the future (watch this blog). I’ll teach you how to strengthen your upper bodies in the style of Qigong, meaning without force or strain. There’s a built-in paradox here, since strengthening the muscles and joints requires work against resistance. That resistance can come in the form of weight, time, or repetition. Basically, we create a “stress” (hold your arms here for 6 slow breaths, for instance) and then strengthen the muscles while dealing with that stress through intention, mindfulness, and breath. Anatomy nerd that I am I will offer explanations of what muscles are working and why, as well as how to relax the muscles you don’t want or need to get involved.

What’s going to be fun is that we’ll draw exercises from several different disciplines and relate them to Qigong exercises, adapting and changing them both a bit into something brand new. So, while this won’t be a pure Qigong practice (is there such a thing?) it will enhance and inform your current Qigong practice.

Another difference: we’ve upgraded our equipment to a much larger screen, and now I can SEE you better. It’s amazing! This allows me to make suggestions as to how you might improve your alignment, a very important part of learning how to safely strengthen your muscles, joints, and bones. That’s also why I limit these workshops to no more than 20 people. I want to be able to give you lots of individual attention.
