Safe Distancing and Hug Hunger

Months away from your go-to body-work therapist may be exacting a toll on your peace of mind and ease of body.  What to do? A few weeks ago, I taught a class called “How to take care of your back when you can’t visit your massage therapist or chiropractor”. It included self-acupressure points to relieve tension and pain, gentle, invigorating stretches to stimulate circulation, and nourishing breath practices to fortify the lungs and immune system. In other words, it was a Qigong class hidden within a western title.

This weekend is the Fourth of July. Perhaps you plan to get together (at a safe distance and wearing your mask) with friends. We need each other’s energy, perhaps more now than ever before. But hugs? Not this year.

Hug hunger is painful. It hurts to see a loved one and not be able to give them a good, heart-felt squeeze!  But we can give ourselves a healing, heart-felt acupressure massage and we can show our pals how to do the same. Some of the best of these acupressure points are on the hands, the back of the neck, the chest, in other words, easy to reach places. By gently massaging these points, we get lots of the same benefits as a massage or acupuncture treatment. I teach acupressure points in every one of our Zoom Qigong classes.

As Lao Tzu says,

“When Heaven wants to protect someone does it send an army? No, it protects him with love”

So love others from a safe distance, and send yourself some healing, protective love while you’re at it. Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

Qi-fully,
Cris
