The Movement within Stillness

Every Qigong master I ever studied with has emphasized the immense value of daily practice. This doesn’t have to be a big deal! Simply connect to your energy, relax and notice, even for just a few minutes. Qigong is so deep, powerful yet subtle that even with a lifetime of experience under your qi belt there will always be things to discover.

Did you know that doing a standing meditation is a complete Qigong? In fact, it’s one of the most powerful ways to train. Standing in one of the classic meditative postures, such as above, presents an opportunity to focus on the deep, subtle currents of aliveness flowing through us: the effortless rhythmic flow of our breath, the circulation of blood, the fine buzz of bioelectricity travelling through the nerves, muscles and connective tissue, the forming and dissolving and forming and dissolving of thoughts in our minds. Standing still and noticing this movement within refines our knowledge of our body. It’s like putting on magic glasses that allow us to see and feel all the little spots where tension lurks, and then let that tension melt and flow away like water down a hill.
