MEDITATION: What is it and why can’t I get it ?

Ok, first things first. You will hear a million different explanations of meditation because it is different for each individual. However, there are some common factors to help you out. First, you need to mitigate the analysis process (brain) and feel your whole being (body). That doesn’t mean you stop thinking per se, it’s more being in the moment, not considering past or future, right or wrong. Think of something that seems effortless: it could be a relaxing qigong flow, and that feeling of just being and doing in that moment, that’s the feeling you are looking for. (I personally think it can be more difficult to do that when sitting still.)  Some techniques that may help include a mantra, which is a singular thing to focus your attention on. You could think of a beautiful place you have visited, or a candle flame, a sound (bells), your breath, or anything that engages your senses. What you are looking for, in my opinion, is an opening feeling: to the universe, to the world, to nature, etc. This will come faster for some than others, it takes experimentation, but you will know it when you feel it. It may be subtle at first, but the more you work with it the longer and stronger it will become. Good meditating and keep trying, it is beneficial no matter how deep you go.
