Learning to Move Gracefully
Learning to Move Gracefully
People who do Qigong talk about the good “side effects” of regular practice, things like improved ability to handle stress, better sleep, and more energy. I’d add another to this list: effortless coordination and grace.
Moving gracefully indicates that you are comfortable in your body, aware of and OK with what it can and cannot do at the moment. As a person whose career led her to specialize in working with people over age 50, I can assure you: this is really powerful! No one likes to feel awkward, but it also puts us at greater risk of falling because we’re so self-conscious about how we think we look as we stumble around.
Qigong teaches us to move slowly and with relaxation, and this automatically translates into bone deep, reliable and lasting grace. If you’re a type “A” this relaxed yet focused movement quality might feel foreign at first, but it with practice it quickly becomes a joyful relief from old, uncomfortable patterns. In our Zoom classes we sprinkle in laughter and companionship; our cats and dogs wander around in the background and we all learn to lighten up and settle down that inner critic as we practice moving with flow and ease. Please join us if you haven’t already done so. We’d love to practice with you!
Qi-fully,
Cris
