Qi-loween

On Halloween, some traditions believe the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest. In the West we have of course turned this into a reason to have spooky fun and eat a lot of candy.  As a Qigong student, I’m consoled by the Taoist perspective that when we die, we transform into golden light. Golden light is warm and comforting, like gazing at a sunset or sitting by a campfire. It’s everywhere, if you look for it. Whenever I feel the pang of missing a loved one, I search out the nearest golden light, whether it’s reflections on the surface of the river, or a slant of light in the sky. Tonight, it’ll be in the candle in my jack-o-lantern. Happy Halloween, everyone!
